Your health and safety are our top priorities. This situation is fluid, and we are working in lock step with the City of Chicago and the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) to develop plans for multiple response scenarios related to coronavirus. Thank you for your flexibility and cooperation during this time.

Re-opening Plans

To protect the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff, most City Colleges credit classes are being offered remotely or online this fall.  Adult education classes are offered via distance learning.

A limited number of credit classes are offered either fully face-to-face or as blended face-to-face and remote classes, when hands on experiences are essential to meeting course requirements or when student learning and retention can benefit.

In all cases, face-to-face instruction is undertaken only as public health conditions allow and with social distancing in place.  Student services are being delivered both remotely and in-person, and our colleges are open as study centers with proper protections in place.  City Colleges continues to support our students with a host of resources – from scholarships and grants, technology, and changes in our facilities to reflect social distancing safety measures.

Detailed re-opening plans for each college are available here.

Frequently Asked Questions

COVID-19 can cause mild to severe respiratory illness. The virus appears to be transmitted through person-to-person contact and health authorities expect more cases may occur in Chicago and the United States. Practicing basic hygiene such as washing your hands regularly with soap is the best way to stop the transmission of the virus.

Practice good hygiene.

  • Washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is best.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands.
  • Practice social distancing whenever possible.
If you have concerns about your health, please contact your personal health care provider, email the City of Chicago’s coronavirus hotline coronavirus@chicago.gov or call the hotline at 312-746-4835.
Our janitorial staff is focused throughout each day on regularly cleaning of:
  • Surfaces in cafeterias/lunch rooms, washrooms and high touch areas
  • Common area surfaces, such as door handles, elevator call buttons, conference room tables, chairs in the lobbies, and other common area surfaces
This cleaning regimen will continue to be emphasized as part of our ongoing response to this public health concern.  Please wash your hands frequently and utilize the hand sanitizer dispensers that are placed throughout all of the colleges.
If you have traveled to a location with widespread community transmission of COVID-19, you should stay home for 14 days after your return date.
If you are planning to travel for personal purposes, it is strongly recommended that you refer to the CDC’s travel information and risk assessments. We urge caution and the exercise of personal judgment.
